A Facebook user, Mc Izzy, has deleted a post claiming that a Nigerian soldier was supplying bullets to bandits after DUBAWA’s fact-check.
The post had claimed that a Nigerian soldier was caught for supplying bandits’ bullets. The video in the post (archived here) showed men in uniform searching a man, supposedly a colleague, concealing ammunition around his waist.
The video went viral. As of Aug. 16, 2026, the video had generated 483,000 views, 769 shares, 8,000 likes, and 104 comments.
The claim drew mixed reactions, with a few users calling the video old while most believed it was recent.
DUBAWA investigated the footage and found that the video is real but had circulated since 2022 across social media platforms (here and here), and was not a recent event as claimed.
An X user, OneJoblessBoy, on Oct. 22, 2022, posted the same video with the caption, “Nigerian Army soldier arrested by his colleagues for allegedly supplying ammunition to Boko Haram terrorists.”
Similarly, an Instagram user, Ogunupdate, shared the same video on Oct. 11, 2022, in the same context.
Over a month after the fact-check was published, DUBAWA observed that the claimant had deleted the post, and it is no longer available on Facebook.

This fellowship is implemented by the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) with support from the European Union.
