Claim: A Facebook user claims Anthony Joshua has retired from boxing.
Verdict: Misleading. Neither Joshua nor reputable news sources have made a public announcement that the former heavyweight champion has retired from boxing. Moreover, British sports promoter Hearn has disclosed that talks about Joshua’s future have been put on hold.

On Dec. 29, 2025, former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua was involved in an auto crash in Makun, Ogun, as he was on his way to visit his family. The athlete, who reportedly sustained minor injuries, however, lost his personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength coach, Sina Ghami, to the accident.
Against this background, a Facebook user claims that Joshua has decided to retire from boxing, following the tragic demise of his friends in the auto crash that occurred during the yuletide.
“Anthony Joshua retires from boxing following the loss of his two best friends in the fatal car accident that claimed their lives,” the Facebook user wrote.
As of Sunday, Jan. 11, 2025, the post has garnered 18 likes and one share.
Due to the claim’s sensitivity, DUBAWA decided to verify the post.
Verification
DUBAWA conducted a keyword search and discovered that no credible news outlet has reported the alleged development.
We also checked Joshua’s X, Facebook, and Instagram handles, and did not see any related announcement concerning his alleged retirement from boxing.
When Joshua paid tribute to his late friends, he spoke only of how special they were and openly disclosed that their sudden demise had been “tough” for him and those they left behind. However, the athlete never mentioned the future of his career.
British sports promoter Eddie Hearn recently told TalkSport that there are no discussions about Joshua’s future concerning his career at the moment, due to the tragic loss of his friends. Hearn stated that Anthony needs time and privacy.
“At the moment, Anthony needs time and privacy. There will be no conversations from us about his career,” Hearn said.
Conclusion
Careful inquiries indicate that neither Joshua nor credible news sources have announced his alleged retirement from boxing. So the claim is misleading.
