Amidst rising security concerns in Nigeria, a Facebook user, Sule Emmanuel Segun, shared a video, discovered with guns, bullets and explosives.
The video (archived here) was shared on May 28, 2026, with the caption, “War is coming in Nigeria, get ready.”
The user urged people to share the video so residents of Lagos could see it.
In the video, a man is heard speaking in Pidgin English, claiming that two buses allegedly occupied by herdsmen were intercepted in Ikorodu, Lagos, and found to contain guns, bullets, and other weapons.
As of June 1, 2026, the post had generated over 11,800 likes, 1,800 comments, and 6,900 reshares.
Some Facebook users expressed distrust in security agencies and concern over the alleged discovery. Kingsley Asukwo wrote, “My question is, as you guys arrest them and hand them over to the police, will the police not set them free?”
Similarly, Babatunde Cole commented, “Let us begin to check every bus coming from the North.”
Questioning how the alleged suspects travelled undetected, OluwaShina Ayomi wrote, “So police no stop this bus until dey reach Ikorodu, or they look away?”
Another user, Anthony Manya, suggested there was more to the incident than reported, saying, “Na business as usual, they didn’t even panic, didn’t you hear when a particular phone rang and someone said oga is calling?”
The video was reposted by other Facebook users, including Foluke Martins. Foluke, on May 31, 2026, shared it with the claim that Fulani herdsmen were arrested in Ikorodu with two vehicles loaded with tomatoes, bullets, guns, and explosive devices.
Other users also reshared the video, here, here and here, while promoting the narrative of an impending invasion of Lagos by herdsmen.
DUBAWA decided to fact-check the claim given its potency to cause panic amid the insecurity surge in the country.
Verification
DUBAWA conducted keyword and reverse-image searches using screenshots extracted from the video.
Findings showed that the video is not recent. Screenshots from the footage were shared on Facebook as far back as September 2022.
Further searches revealed that Facebook users also posted the same video in 2022, indicating that the footage predates the current claim by nearly four years.
Nairaland also posted the video in September 2022. The story on the post indicates that some vehicles loaded with explosive devices were intercepted in Ikorodu.
The headline reads, “Breaking News: Two vehicles loaded with bullets, guns and explosive devices were uncovered a few hours ago at a scrapyard in Powerline Unity Estate CDA, Poromope, Idiroko along Itamaga-Ijede Road, Ikorodu.”
There is no evidence that the video depicts a recent incident or supports the assertion that “war is coming” to Nigeria. The post simply recycles old footage and presents it as a current security threat.
Conclusion
The claim that the video shows a recent arrest of suspected herdsmen in Lagos and signals an impending war in Nigeria is false. Findings show that the footage has been online since 2022 and is being reshared with a misleading and alarmist narrative.
