A Threads user, @budapest047, shared a post claiming that former U.S. President Barack Obama had died. The post included a photograph of Obama edited with a large red circle and the words “DIED TODAY” (archived here).

The post had attracted more than 140,000 views, 1,700 likes, 733 comments and 823 shares at the time it was captured.

DUBAWA fact-checked this claim as part of our mandate to combat information disorder.

Verification

DUBAWA searched for credible reports of Barack Obama’s alleged death but found no reports from credible news organisations or official authorities confirming the claim.

We also checked the official platforms associated with Obama. The Office of Barack and Michelle Obama remains operational, and its official website is currently accessible. See here also.

The Obama Foundation has also continued its activities in September 2026. Its official website lists programmes scheduled for September, including events at the Obama Presidential Centre.

More importantly, the Obama Foundation’s official press-release page contains announcements dated September 1 and September 3, 2026, demonstrating that the organisation continues to operate normally. See here.

We also found a recent post from Obama’s verified @BarackObama X account, dated September 4, 2026, in which he and his family were present at the Obama Presidential Centre. Nothing on his X account has any information about his alleged death.

Furthermore, the Official White House Website also has no such headline or information.

Conclusion

The claim that Barack Obama has died is false. There is no credible confirmation of his death, while official Obama-related platforms continue to publish current information and activities. The image circulating on Threads therefore does not provide credible evidence that Obama has died.
