Full Text
In a season defined by tactical reshuffles and injury setbacks, Gerard Martín has quietly established himself as one of FC Barcelona’s most dependable defensive options.
The 24-year-old Spaniard, who joined the senior squad from La Masia, has featured in over 40 matches across all competitions, proving his worth as a versatile left-back and occasional centre-back this season.
With two trophies, La Liga and Supercopa de Espāna won this season, his performances have provided a measure of reliability for his side.
However, several social media claims, like Nana Luis, alleged that Gerard Martín has been awarded the best defender in La Liga this season.
A similar claim is found here, here, and here.
DUBAWA decided to fact-check the claims due to their potential to mislead the public.
Verification
DUBAWA conducted a Google keyword search and found that the claim has not been reported by any credible news agency. We also verified the claim on Barcelona’s official news site, but did not find any evidence to support it.
We found that the La Liga Awards, which are presented annually by the Liga de Fútbol Profesional (LFP) to honour the standout performers of the Spanish first division, have not awarded players for this season nor published a nomination list.
Conclusion
Our investigation showed that Gerard Martinez has not been awarded the best defender in La Liga this season.
