False! Liberia’s Drug Enforcement Agency Boss didn’t resign over $19m drug investigation

Claim: Expelled Representative Yekeh Kolubah posted a letter purported to be the resignation letter of Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) boss DCP Fitzgerald T. M. Biago.

Verdict: False! LDEA, in a statement on the Institution’s official Facebook page, refuted the claim, saying that Mr Biago at no point expressed, discussed, or entertained any intention to resign. 

Full Text 

The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) on June 8, 2026, intercepted 198 compressed plates of cocaine concealed in six cargo boxes at the Roberts International Airport in Liberia. 

LDEA placed the shipment at an estimated street value of US$19,226,000.00 (approximately LRD 3,652,940,000.00), which was destined for export via Brussels Airlines. 

Investigation into the matter has since begun, and on June 19, 2026, the Ministry of Justice named ten individuals as primary persons of interest. Those named are: Philip Yeoh, Security Manager at GLS Menzies; Ruth Gbapaywhea, RIA Scanner Agent; Archie Nyanfor, Cargo Handler at Express Handling Services; Arthur B. Abdullai, Chief Executive of Express Handling Services; Geraldine Zeon, Roberts International Airport (RIA) Scanner Agent; and Mohammed Gbowrah, Security Director at RIA. 

Others are: Paul J. King, Chief Executive of GLS Menzies; Oscar Browne, Chief of Intelligence for RIA Security; and Emmanuel T. Zeon, a Transporter for Express Handling Services. 

After the Ministry of Justice press conference, Yekeh Kolubah took to Facebook to claim that LDEA boss, Fitzgerald T. M. Biago, has resigned following pressure from the executive branch of government to conceal the names of certain persons of interest.  

The letter posted by the claimant states that the lives of Mr Biago and his family are under threat from unknown individuals believed to be connected to the $19 million drug saga.

According to Kolubah, the Commander resigned because of pressure arising from the executive branch of government to conceal the identities of persons of interest that are allegedly connected to the $19million drug seized at Roberts International Airport. The post is archived here. 

The post accumulated 1.9k reactions, 615 comments, and 86 shares. The claim was also reported by news outlets, as shown here. In the comments, viewers argued about the authenticity of the letter. Some believed the content, while others disagreed.

Based on the mixed reactions, DUBAWA initiated a fact-check. 

Verification 

To verify this claim, DUBAWA contacted the LDEA communication department. In response, LDEA released a statement on its official Facebook page refuting the claim. The anti-drug agency referred to the claim as baseless, only attempted to misinform the public, and damage the image of the institution.

“The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LEA) unequivocally rejects and condemns the false, malicious, and reckless reports circulating on social media alleging that DCP Fitzgerald T. M. Biago, Officer-in-Charge of the LDEA, is contemplating resignation due to pressure arising from ongoing investigations.

“This claim is entirely baseless and without merit. At no time has the Officer-in-Charge expressed, discussed, or entertained any intention to resign,” the statement reads.

Conclusion 

Based on findings gathered, the LDEA boss did not resign following the $19 million drug investigation. Therefore, the claim is false.
