Like many high-profile political figures, Kashim Shettima has been the subject of several viral claims online. His name has surfaced in different narratives, some accurate, others misleading. For instance, there were allegations that he relocated from his official residence after discovering secret CCTV cameras. In another case, an old video circulated as though it showed a recent rejection of national restructuring.

In both instances, DUBAWA debunked the claims and found them false and taken out of context.

On Feb. 19, 2026, a Facebook user posted a video (archived here) claiming that Kashim Shettima threatened that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would split if he were removed as vice president.

The video shows a man saying, “If I am removed as vice president, APC will be divided into two, Shettima warned APC leaders. My people, must it be a Muslim-Muslim ticket again for the second time? Share this video and drop your meaningful comment.”

As of Feb. 22, 2026, the post had garnered 185 likes, 34 comments, and over 1,000 views.

DUBAWA reviewed the comments to know what other users thought.

@Catholic gospel joint wrote, “If he doesn’t want to step down, he should go ahead and join another political party.”

@Obiora Maryrose  added, “So shall Nigeria be divided.”

@Rosekate Ogu, sounding certain, commented, “He will definitely be removed.”

The same claim was also shared here, here, and here.

DUBAWA observed that the Facebook user who shared the video actively followed up on the comments, reassuring users that the claim was true and thanking them for engaging.

Given the sensitive nature of this allegation, DUBAWA proceeded to verify the claim.

Verification

DUBAWA began by checking the verified social media accounts of Kashim Shettima to determine whether he made such a statement. Posts across his official platforms only show his activities and engagements as Nigeria’s vice president. There is no record of any comment suggesting that the APC would be divided if he were removed from office.

We also reviewed his official website to check for recent speeches or statements that might support the claim. However, the website did not contain updated records of recent remarks addressing such an issue.

DUBAWA also searched for credible news reports that might have recorded such a statement, but none were found.

To further verify the claim, DUBAWA attempted to contact Stanley Nkwocha, the spokesperson to the vice president, for confirmation through his social media handles. As of the time of filing this report, he has yet to respond.

Conclusion

DUBAWA found no evidence to back the claim that Kashim Shettima warned that the APC would be divided if he were removed as vice president. The claim is therefore false.
