Since becoming the minister of the FCT in 2023, Nyesom Wike, former governor of Rivers state, has embarked on commissioning several road projects in Abuja. In February 2025, the federal government approved N159.5 billion for five major projects to enhance road networks, transportation, and estate access across the FCT.

With major road constructions ongoing across the FCT, an X user, A. Ayofe, shared a video on April 30, 2025, allegedly showing an Abuja road network. This was to showcase Mr Wike’s achievements.

The post was captioned, “Abuja road network is mad. If na Burkina Faso, this road they, Obidiot will be crying everywhere (sic).”

As of May 4, 2025, the post has 186,000 views, 129 reposts, 894 likes, and 62 quotes.

Reacting to this post, Dr Tasbol Vet wrote, “I lived in Abuja, still visited recently. We don’t even use blue colour signposts for direction, it’s usually green. However, Wike is doing a great job in terms of infrastructure. This video is just unnecessary to prove what exactly?”

Similarly, Jesse Owoh commented, “Lol, how the hell does anybody believe this is Abuja? I stay in Abuja. Please tell me which part of Abuja that is. Never seen that place in my life.”

We also found the image shared by other X users here, here, and on Facebook here.

Given the claim’s virality and comments questioning its veracity, DUBAWA decided to fact-check it.

Verification

We took one of the video’s keyframes and conducted an image search on Yandex. We found a similar image on Piqsels (Pixels) with a caption in the Indonesian language, “Kanada, mississauga, 5986 bandara rd, jembatan layang, toronto, langit, struktur yang dibangun, Arsitektur.”

The Google translation of this caption reads, “Canada, Mississauga, 5986 Airport Rd, Skyline, Toronto, Built Structure, Architecture,” suggesting the road network is in Canada, close to an airport.

We also found a similar image on Wallpaper Flare with the caption, “Canada, Mississauga, 5986 Airport Rd, flyover, Toronto, sky, HD wallpaper.”

A Google keyword search of the address location revealed that one of the high-rise buildings in the keyframe is Airway Centre II, a first-class office complex located directly across from Toronto Pearson International Airport in Canada. This was also confirmed on Google Maps.

Also, an X account, @Nairaexchanger, which commented on the post, confirmed that the road network was from Canada, Toronto, precisely. “It’s near Pearson International Airport. I know this because of the two high-rises in the video.”

Conclusion

The videos shared on X and Facebook allegedly showing a road network in Abuja are false. We traced the road network to Canada around Toronto Pearson International Airport.
