Claim: “The COVID-related deaths in Liberia did not reach 100 people.” Ansu Dualu, a panellist on Spoon Talk asserted.
Verdict: False! Findings from the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) show Liberia had more than 200 COVID-19 deaths.

The world was completely devastated after COVID emerged in 2019, in China. Liberia, a West African nation, was not left out. It also felt the pinch of the pandemic.
Many people panicked, thousands of lives were affected in the country and hundreds of lives were lost.
But on his appearance as a panellist on a nighttime political show on Spoon Network, Ansu Dualu claimed COVID helped Liberia more than it hurt the country.
He went on to say, “The deaths announced in Liberia did not reach 100 people when it relates to Covid.” Dualu can be heard at the 2:02:37 to 2:02:40 during the show.
The video attracted 919 reactions, 3.8k comments, 409 shares, and 59.8k plays as of the time of this report.
Given the number of people who followed the program, DUBAWA had to verify the claim made.
Verification
DUBAWA checked the Facebook page of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHI). The NPHIL is the government entity responsible for forecasting, preventing, and responding to disease outbreaks and incidents of public health significance.
The data as of Jan. 9, 2022, shows that Liberia had 7,109 confirmed cases, with 288 deaths, contrary to Dualu’s claim.
As far back as June 29, 2021, the country had 128 COVID deaths. Higher than what Dualu claimed.
Conclusion
Ansu Dualu’s claim that the COVID-related deaths announced in Liberia did not reach 100 people is misleading.
