Verdict: Misleading. DUBAWA’s findings reveal that the incident occurred in Kebbi State, not Kano.

A Facebook page, NKG & GKN, shared a video, claiming that people in Kano State were tearing down posters belonging to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The footage (archived here) shows a large crowd of youth pulling down, stoning, and shredding political campaign materials. The banners feature the pictures of President Bola Tinubu and Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris.
In the video, a man said, “In Kano, they are tearing every poster concerning the APC party in their state; they say they don’t want it again…”
As of Oct. 16, 2026, the post had attracted more than 157 comments, 732 shares and 4,100 likes.
Some commenters interpreted the footage as evidence of growing public dissatisfaction with the government.
Ugo Eke wrote, “Mazi Nnamdi Kanu once said that the war will start from the north.”
Richard Uyok commented, “The political atmosphere is gradually gathering momentum towards Revolution from the people’s actions; you don’t need to be told.”
Christopher Chidi wrote, “This should be applied in every state of the federation!”
The video was also shared here, here, here, and here.
DUBAWA decided to fact-check the claim because it could heighten political tensions, fuel hostility, and incite violence as the 2027 general elections approach.
Verification
DUBAWA examined the footage and observed “Renewed hope for a greater Kebbi State” written on the campaign poster. This indicates the incident occurred in Kebbi State, not Kano State.
Other social media users also shared the video on Instagram and YouTube, with captions identifying Kebbi State as the location.
Further checks of media reports established that an incident involving the destruction of APC campaign materials occurred in Jega, Kebbi State, in late September 2026.
According to Daily Trust, youth in Jega pulled down posters and billboards bearing the images of Nigeria’s President, Tinubu, and Kebbi State Governor Nasir.
We found a report where APC’s Kebbi State Publicity Secretary, Isah Assalafi, called for an investigation into the incident and the prosecution of perpetrators.
In a related development, Daily Post reported that Governor Nasir’s aide, ATM Jega, threatened to prevent former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, from entering Kebbi State over alleged political billboard vandalism.
These reports corroborate established facts that the destruction of APC campaign materials occurred in Jega, Kebbi State, not Kano State.
Conclusion
The claim that the viral video shows people destroying APC posters in Kano State is misleading. DUBAWA’s findings, supported by media reports and other social media posts, identify the location as Kebbi, not Kano State.
