Claim: A Facebook user claims that OPay is giving out N6,000 to all customers to celebrate its sixth anniversary.
Verdict: FALSE! In response to DUBAWA’s inquiry about the claim, OPay stated it is false. Moreover, reputable media outlets never reported such a development.

A Facebook user, Ojebode Adelowo, shared a post claiming that OPay is giving N6,000 to all its customers to celebrate its sixth anniversary.
The post was shared on Friday, July 19, 2024.
The post reads, “Are you using Opay? OPAY is giving out *6,000 naira* to all users to celebrate *6 years Anniversary*. Check on the link below to see if you are among the lucky winners now. _*Check Now*_: 0payme.shtnarz.com”
This post has also been shared on various WhatsApp groups, as evident in the screenshot below.
Having suspected such links to be fraudulent, DUBAWA decided to verify its integrity.
Verification
DUBAWA first clicked on the link shared by the user on Facebook. The link requested us to enter our Opay account number in a given space. After entering a random number, we received a congratulatory message claiming we had been selected as beneficiaries and were instructed to share the message with groups on WhatsApp.
Furthermore, we searched for credible media reports and checked OPay’s official X handle regarding the claim. However, the financial and technological bank provided no information about the alleged celebration by OPay.
Also, when DUBAWA contacted OPay via its X handle for confirmation, the bank’s spokesperson debunked the claim as false.
“Kindly disregard the above information, as it is false,” part of its response reads.
Conclusion
The claim is false. OPay has dismissed the claim as lacking in integrity.
