In another week of monitoring and addressing misinformation, here are the top claims DUBAWA verified.
- Trump’s inauguration
The inauguration of Donald Trump as the 47th President of the United States came with instant restructuring. This event quickly stirred many controversies among social media users, making some ask if President Trump swore on the Bible or not and if he truly withdrew the US from WHO.
While it is not always strange for Mr Trump’s name to be caught up in misformation, DUBAWA provided answers to these questions here and here.
- Video of robot airlifting ready-made house
Technology is fast revolutionising even the most unthinkable sectors. At least, this was an easy resolve as a Facebook user shared a video of a drone airlifting a ready-made house.
The user claimed the video was evidence of the latest infrastructural development in developed countries like China.
On the contrary, DUBAWA discovered this was all visual effects. To know more about our findings, click here.
- Niger state fire incident
We had barely gotten over the California wildfires when a tanker explosion happened at Dikko Junction in Gurara Local Government Area of Niger state. Following this occurrence, social media users began to share multiple visuals, supposedly from the explosion scene.
Part of these visuals was a video which we found to have been on the internet since December 2024. The video had no connection to the Niger State incident. Read more about it here.
- Fake Vanguard website trends with fake Kadaria Ahmed’s interview
Just before the 2024 Christmas celebration, an Instagram page published a sponsored post featuring an image styled to mimic a report from Vanguard newspaper. The headline declared that the Central Bank of Nigeria had sued Kadaria Ahmed, founder of Daria Media, over an alleged interview with News Central TV.
After a comparative analysis, DUBAWA discovered that the website referenced was not only faked to look like Vanguard’s, but the claim was also untrue.
