Ike Ekweremadu, the former deputy senate president, Beatrice Ekweremadu, his wife and Obinna Obeta, a medical doctor, were imprisoned on May 5, 2023, for nine years and eight months, four years and six months, and 10 years, respectively, for conspiring to arrange the travel of a man to harvest his organs.

In response to this, Zara Onyinye, on Facebook, claims that the wife of the former deputy senator Beatrice arrived in Nigeria on Jan. 21, 2025. In the post, she wrote, “Mrs Beatrice Ekweremadu, wife of former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, is back in Nigeria as she has been released from prison.”

The post, which has now gone viral, was shared on X, Facebook, here, here, here, here, here, and here, amassing over 100 likes and 300 comments. 

Verification 

DUBAWA did a keyword search to see if any reputable news outlets had reported it. 

We saw that Channels Television had reported the story. In the report, they noted that she had returned to Nigeria on Jan 21, 2025.  

“A source who craved anonymity told Channels Television that Mrs Ekweremadu, who was sentenced to five years in UK prison, returned to the country on Tuesday. She is said to be in Abuja currently,” Channels TV wrote. 

Tribune Online, Punch Newspapers, and BBC also reported that the senator’s wife had returned to Nigeria, although the details of her release are not clear yet.

The claim that the Senate president’s wife has been released and is back in Nigeria is true. Reputable sources confirmed this.
