As people continue to share mis- and disinformation across all social media platforms, DUBAWA verified several public assertions shared during the last week.
Below are some of the major ones:
- Donald Trump gives Ibrahim Traore a 24-hour ultimatum before war over gold
Since military leader Ibrahim Traore took over the government in Burkina Faso, the West African country has tightened state control on its mining sector, especially gold, an essential source of revenue for the junta.
But a Facebook influencer, Dabreezy Comedy, claimed that Donald Trump wants 90% of Burkina Faso’s gold and oil reserves.
DUBAWA analysed the claim using Attestiv Video, an AI-powered deepfake detector, to authenticate the claim. The analysis showed that the content had been digitally manipulated.
Meanwhile, DUBAWA noticed some anomalies in the video, including repetitive automated body movement, unnatural speaking tone and inconsistent audio synchronisation with the speaker’s lip movement.

- Cristiano Ronaldo has won the 2025 top scorer award in the UEFA Nations League
Five-time Ballon d’Or winner, Cristiano Ronaldo, lifted his second UEFA Nations League trophy for Portugal after beating the defending champions, Spain, in a penalty shootout.
The 40-year-old was instrumental in helping his team secure the win after scoring the equaliser before the interval in the finale.
A popular Facebook page, Sams Sipp, claimed Ronaldo had won the 2025 UEFA Nations League top scorer award.
Using Google keyword search, DUBAWA discovered that despite scoring eight goals in nine matches, Ronaldo was not the top scorer of the European tournament.
A further search on UEFA’s official website shows that Swedish international Viktor Gyokeres won the 2025 UEFA Nations League top scorer award with nine goals, ahead of Ronaldo.

- Donald Trump declares a nationwide ban on Tesla products.
The relationship between tech billionaire Elon Musk and the United States president, Donald Trump, recently soured. Early in June, Elon criticised Trump’s proposed $2.4 trillion tax and spending bill, which incorporated cuts to electric vehicle subsidies. He also floated the idea of a new political party and shared laced posts about Trump’s link to Jefferey Epstein.
Trump responded by threatening to end federal contracts with Musk’s companies and rolling back EV policies, accusing Musk of turning on him.
A Facebook user, @Abashwe, shared a video showing Donald Trump announcing a ban on producing all Tesla products in the United States (US).
DUBAWA subjected the video to Hive.ai and submitted a 99.9% confidence score, indicating that the video is likely a deepfake. We also analysed the clip using Deepware.ai, another AI detection tool, which showed that the video is fabricated.
DUBAWA also traced the viral video using reverse image search. In the original clip, Trump was seen thanking Elon for his work with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
The footage, taken from a press conference held on May 30, 2025, was posted on the White House’s official YouTube channel.

- Pope urges Nigerian government to release Nnamdi Kanu
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, has remained a controversial subject in political conversations, as his arrest and time in custody have been backed by calls for his release, especially from his supporters.
A Facebook user, National politics and news update, posted a picture of the recently elected Pope, Robert Prevost, and attached a caption stating that the Pope has urged the Nigerian government to release Kanu.
DUBAWA used Google Lens to assess the video and discovered that the video was recorded during Pope XIV’s inauguration on May 8, 2025. The event followed the death of the late Pope Francis on April 2, 2025. In the original video, the bishops appreciated the president coordinating their visit to the Vatican and attending the event in person.
However, the Pope was not present in the room during Tinubu’s meeting with the bishops, and there was no mention or request for the release of Nnamdi Kanu. We also discovered that no press release or credible news reports confirmed that Pope Leo XIV made such a request.
We observed that the accounts sharing the claim are associated with pro-Biafra narratives that show previous misinformation attempts involving Nnamdi Kanu.

- Fighter jet from Iran-Israel conflict en route to Nigeria
The political tensions between Israel and Iran have now grown into a fierce military confrontation. Israel launched Operation Rising Lion, which targeted Iran’s nuclear infrastructure and military installations. Iran responded by firing 400 ballistic missiles and deploying hundreds of drones at Israeli cities such as Tehran, Tel Aviv, and Haifa.
A Facebook page, @CNB Hausa, shared a fighter jet and a caption in Hausa that a jet went off course and headed towards Nigeria and lost its service along the way, but Iran deployed an aircraft and is searching for it in the skies.
DUBAWA conducted a reverse image search using Google Lens to find the image of the fighter jet photo shared. The search showed that the image is not recent and has been circulating online for a long time. The jet in the picture is an F-35 Lightning II, a fifth-generation stealth multirole combat aircraft developed by Lockheed Martin. The roundel in the aircraft identifies it as part of the Israeli Air Force.
Although Israel uses the F-35, the image shared in the claim appears to be a stock photo, not tied to any current operation or deployment. It has previously appeared in aviation blogs, news features, and military hardware discussions.
DUBAWA also checked and found no credible reports from military sources, flight tracking services, or international news outlets confirming that a fighter jet deployed for the Iran-Israel conflict went off course toward Nigerian airspace.
