TikTok has removed seven accounts hosting erotic shows in Yorùbá language. This happened three days after DUBAWA published an investigation that exposed how creators were bypassing the platform’s moderation system by hosting explicit sexual storytelling sessions in the language.
Between December 2025 and May 2026, DUBAWA monitored 20 live shows from accounts conducting explicit sexual storytelling sessions in Yorùbá on TikTok Livestream. The sessions have run for months, undisturbed, because TikTok’s moderation infrastructure has no documented capacity to detect explicit content in Yorùbá or any other African language. Audience members screen-record these sessions and circulate them freely on TikTok, X, and Telegram.
DUBAWA reported these live sessions, as well as the recirculated versions. TikTok’s feedback said they did not violate its community guidelines. Meanwhile, on paper, TikTok’s own policy is clear; the platform frowns on the use of “sexually explicit language” by any user.
However, on May 20, 2026, five days after DUBAWA submitted a list of 15 accounts to TikTok’s Outreach and Partnerships Manager, Duduzile Mkhize, the first wave of bans happened. TikTok removed Old Taker, which had 89,000 followers, and Adun of TikTok, which had 11,000 followers. These were documented in the original story.
Three days after publication, TikTok removed five more. These include Happiness’ main account with 296,000 followers; two backup accounts with 87,700 and 63,800 followers, respectively; Yinka TNT with 155,500 followers; and Kalifiat Odunayo with 376,100 followers.
While these accounts are now down, Happiness still has one backup account with 20,000 followers. Also, the screen-recorded versions of their sessions are still viral on other accounts.
It is also unclear whether TikTok’s algorithm can now understand the Yorùbá language and prevent these creators from organising more shows.
