Amidst the prevailing price hike of commodities and services, flight tickets have also risen astronomically due to the devaluation of the naira to the dollar.

However, Facebook user Olivia Pope posted that a local Nigerian flight enterprise, Air Peace, has announced a slash in its flight ticket fee from Lagos to London.

“Just In: Air Peace announces N1.2 million for direct flights to London and its return ticket,” she wrote.

The post had generated over 28 reactions on Facebook as of Tuesday, March 12, 2024.

In reaction to the post, some Facebook users inquired if the price was for a one-way ticket, while some believed the claim.

“One way?” Murtala Adoji Emmanuel asked

“Very good.” Reginald Chidozie Orih wrote.

To confirm the authenticity of the claim, DUBAWA decided to verify it.

Verification

DUBAWA checked Air Peace’s social media account on X (formerly Twitter) and discovered it had announced the platform. The return flight for economy class is N1.2 million, while business class is N4 million. Meanwhile, there is a 15 per cent discount for Nigerian students in the United Kingdom (UK).

DUBAWA also conducted a keyword search and found a related news report published by BusinessDay.

According to the report, Air Peace has stipulated its economy class ticket for the Lagos to London trip at N1.2 million, “slashing fares by 66 per cent on the route.”

The report further stated that the flight schedule for the Lagos-London trip is expected to commence by March 30, 2024. Moreover, while a return economy class ticket would be charged N1.2 million, a return business class ticket would be charged N4 million.

Meanwhile, according to the report, Nigerians studying in the United Kingdom (UK) can now receive a 15 per cent rebate on economy-class fares.

Vanguard newspaper also quotes the Public Relations and Communications lead officer of Air Peace Limited, Stanley Olisa, stating that the prices for London routes are now available, and “we are crashing the price of flight tickets.”

The newspaper outlet further reiterated BusinessDay’s report.

Conclusion

The claim is valid. Both Air Peace and credible news outlets confirmed the announcement.
