Claim: An X user in a video claimed Adamu Garba has dumped APC due to party negligence under Tinubu’s administration.

Verdict: Misleading. The video was recorded in 2022 when Garba defected from APC, not a recent occurrence as claimed.

As we approach the 2027 elections, disinformation about political figures defecting from their parties is on the rise.
Against this backdrop, an X user @TENIBEGILOJU202 on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2026, shared a video (archived here) of Adamu Garba, a former member of the Nigerian Senate, unmounting the All Progressive Congress (APC) in his office and claimed he has defected from the APC due to the inconsistency of the party under the President Tinubu leadership.
“Breaking! One of the ardent supporters of APC, Adamu Garba, just dumped the party. He removed the APC flag from his office and bid them farewell. According to him, the party under Tinubu has derailed and is no longer doing what the people want,” the video’s caption reads.
A similar claim was also shared on Facebook, as seen here. Meanwhile, the post has amassed over 133,700 views, 256 comments, 1,000 likes, 4555 reposts, and 106 bookmarks as of Thursday, Feb. 19, 2026.
Comments under the post show that most users believed it was true, while a few others tagged it as old.
One user, @ComrAbdulazeez, wrote, “Everybody is beginning to see how APC has become because of its treacherous anti-people policies.”
Another comment by @stanley1623 reads, “He has always been on the fence! Was more of a buharist than Tinubu.”
“This was an old video when he was protesting to be recognised as the party youth leader or something like that,” @ChibuzoChizech added.
Given the implication of such defection ahead of the 2027 election, DUBAWA verified the video.
Verification
DUBAWA took screenshots of the clip and ran a Google Reverse Image Search, leading us to similar videos shared on Facebook in May 2022, as seen here and here.
We came across another Facebook post shared by the Cable in 2022, with the caption, “TRENDING VIDEO: Adamu Garba takes down APC flag from his office, apologises to Nigerians.”
Investigating further, we conducted a keyword search on Adamu‘s defection in 2022, which led us to a 2022 Premium Times publication. The report revealed that Adamu had dumped the APC and stated that the party had lost its moral bearings and had drifted from its core values.
The report further noted that his decision to defect from the party in 2022 followed his announcement of his intention to contest the Presidency in the 2023 election.
Another publication by the International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR) added that his decision to leave the party was linked to an increase in their presidential form and breach of public trust.
The story was also published by News Investigators and Metro Daily.
However, in July 2022, Adamu rejoined APC after losing the Young Progressives Party (YPP) 2023 presidential ticket to Malik Ado-Ibrahim.
Furthermore, a check through his official X handle led us to a post where he refuted his defection to APC.
Conclusion
DUBAWA’s research shows the video was filmed in May 2022, when he left APC following allegations of negligence and extortion by the party. Therefore, the clip is old and misleading.
