Verification
We carried out a Google Lens search on some screenshots of the video posted. Results show that the footage has been in circulation since 2020.
Moreover, we came across a similar 2020 Facebook video, as seen here and here.
Television Continental (TVC) also posted the same video on YouTube in 2020. The caption reads, “Tinubu Talks tough on Obaseki, calls on Edo people to reject him.”
Probing further, we came across newspaper platforms that reported the president’s backlash at the governor in 2020. A Punch report published on Sep. 15, 2020, noted how the president implored the voters in Edo state not to vote for Mr Obaseki.
Premium Times also reported a similar story, adding that the reason for the political criticism was the refusal of Mr Obaseki to swear in 14 lawmakers in the state House of Assembly. TheCable also reported a similar event on that same day. Moreover, Mr Tinubu was referred to as the national leader of the All Progressives Congress at the time of the incident.
Conclusion
Results from our research show that the video clip has been online since 2020 when Tinubu was the national head of the APC political party.
