Verdict: Misleading! The images shared are screenshots taken from a 2017 video showing Boko Haram overpowering some Nigerian soldiers in a battle.
Full Text
Following recent news about the abduction and consequent murder of Brigadier General Musa Uba by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), Nigerians began to share images as scenes from his “live execution.”
One of the images showed a Nigerian soldier being held captive behind a pick-up van. Another showed how the same person was dragged along a grassy field before getting shot.

People sharing the news of Brig. Gen. Uba’s murder on X, Facebook and Instagram have been attaching either one or two of these images in their posts as seen here, here, here, here, here, and here.
DUBAWA conducted this fact check due to the circumstances surrounding the tragic event and the claim’s virality.
Verification
We conducted a reverse image search, which led to a 2017 video documenting Boko Haram’s exploits.
The footage shows how the group overpowered and executed Nigerian soldiers on a battlefield. Among the several soldiers killed was the one whose photo is now being used to represent the Late Brig. Gen. Uba.
The images were also posted on Nairaland on Sept. 9, 2017, as seen here.
Conclusion
Contrary to the viral narrative, the images shared are actually screenshots taken from a 2017 video, which showed how Boko Haram overpowered some Nigerian military men in a battle.
