Claim: A popular X influencer shared a video of French players singing to celebrate their 2018 World Cup. However, the lyrics translated over the video are incorrect and ridicule the players.

Verdict: Misleading. Although the French players danced and celebrated to Vegedream’s “Ramenez la coupe à la Maison” after winning the 2018 World Cup, the lyrics used in the clip shared on X have been edited and are different from the song’s original lyrics.
Full Text
France won the World Cup in 2018. It was the French side’s second time lifting the cup at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, after they first clinched it on home soil in 1998.
It had been a thrilling affair, including a pitch invasion and a controversial Video Assistant Referee (VAR) decision that greatly influenced the match’s outcome, which eventually culminated in a 4-2 result in favour of the French side.
Against this background, a popular X influencer, @Troll Football, shared a video clip of a winning French national team jubilating with their World Cup trophy, while dancing to Satchela Djedje, popularly known as Vegedream’s song, “Ramenez la coupe à la Maison.”
The X user shared this in the context of finally figuring out what the team was singing back then. His caption read “I’ve always wondered what they were singing.”
Part of the song’s lyric over the video reads “Who chooses money over success? Kylian Mbappe… Who spends half of their season in the hospital? Ousmane Dembele… Who’s overrated and has the worst dance moves? Paulo Paul Pogba…”
Since the post was shared on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2025, it has attracted 274,000 views, 139 comments, 601 retweets, 7,700 likes, and 942 bookmarks.
Many other X users noted that the song’s lyrics had been changed, although a few believed it.
“That’s great, enjoying the victory,” @kadyan_anoop wrote.
“You have changed the lyrics,” Mr Visco commented.
“Now, imagine those who haven’t heard the initial song and lyrics…this is how history is distorted and future generations misled…,” Cosmonautzzzx mentioned.
DUBAWA decided to verify the post due to its virality and potential to threaten information accuracy in public discourse, like giving people a false and negative impression of the footballers mentioned in the song
Verification
DUBAWA conducted a keyword search for the lyrics of Vegedream’s “Ramenez la coupe à la Maison” song, translated into English.
We found Vegedream’s YouTube page, where we found the lyrics of the French song, interpreted in English. The song acknowledges the skill set of some of the players on the French national team at that time and celebrates that France won the World Cup 20 years later, after having clinched the coveted trophy in 1998.
The song praises players like Samuel Umtiti for his strides on the field, Benjamin Mendy for always coming to the team’s rescue, Blaise Matuidi for controlling the pitch, Mbappe for his acceleration, nutmeg, and strike, Ousmane Dembele for his ability to shoot with both feet, Paul Pogba for his ability to secure the midfield, and Antoine Griezman for being a successful penalty shooter.
Other names mentioned in the song are Ngolo Kante, Presnel Kimpembe, Nabil Fekir, Corentin Tolisso, Benjamin Pavard, Adil Rami, Lucas Hernandez, Steve Mandanda, Hugo Lloris, Djibril Sidibe, Olivier Giroud, Steven Nzonzi, Raphael Varane, Florian Thauvin, Thomas Lemar, Alphonse Areola, and Didier Deschamps– the coach.
Other YouTube music outlets such as LARUCHE MUSIC, Chill MOOD, and ETO, also reported similar lyrics.
Furthermore, part of the lyrics shared on X referenced Paris Saint-Germain (PSG)’s forward Dembele leaving Spanish giants Barcelona to win the Champions League with PSG. However, Dembele joined the Ligue 1 champions in 2023 and did not win the Champions League until 2025.
It is also impossible that Vegedream, in 2018, included lyrics that highly acknowledged Dembele leaving Barca for PSG to win the Champions League, when he only won it seven years later. This could only have happened if the Vegedream’s song was edited.
Conclusion
The claim is false. The lyrics of the song shared on X have been edited.
