An X user, @I_am_Tkgold, has deleted his post after DUBAWA fact-checked his claim.
On March 9, 2026, @I_am_Tkgold posted (archived here) that Nigeria had just received a £50 billion loan from North Korea.
As of March 11, 2026, the post had garnered 26,000 views, 557 likes, and 216 reposts. It has also appeared on Facebook here and here.
Although the Ministry of Finance did not respond to our inquiries, DUBAWA analysed available facts which disproved the claim.
We found that North Korea’s economy would not allow it to lend that amount of money to another country. And if it were to, it does not have the legal freedom to engage in financial transactions with countries under the United Nations umbrella.
Within 24 hours of publication, we revisited the claimant’s page. We discovered he had brought down his post.
