On Jan. 25, 2019, Punch reported the incident of a man, Kingsley Udoyin, who was arrested for impersonating an Assistant Commissioner of Police.

According to the report, he was arrested in Akwa Ibom State alongside other criminals who were arrested for defiling minors in the state.

On that same day, The Nation published a similar story, adding that the suspect was involved in defrauding and threatening unsuspecting members of the public.

In addition, he was found in possession of a pistol and other materials used to disguise himself as a police officer.

Other news outlets, such as Universal Reporters and The Daily Times, reported the same story in January 2019.

Delving deeper, DUBAWA checked for recent reports on the incident but found a disclaimer in media reports. Premium Times published a disclaimer on Jan. 4, 2025, refuting the recency of the image.
