On Nov. 8, 2025, over two million residents across Anambra’s 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs) will determine who leads the state for the next term.

Amidst heightened political tension, campaign promises, and party rivalry among candidates from 16 political parties, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) released the final voter register, showing the number of people eligible to vote.

INEC, in a post shared on its official X handle, revealed that a total of 2,802,790 registered voters will vote in the Anambra governorship election.

The commission stated that the figure was based on the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise conducted between July 8 and 20, 2025.

During the exercise, 168,187 new voters registered, but 27,817 entries were flagged as duplicates or multiple registrations after data cleaning using the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS).

This left 140,370 valid new registrants and 5,983 voter transfers. This resulted in a total addition to the register of 146,353.

Combined with previous registered voters (2,656,437), Anambra’s voter register now totals 2,802,790.

INEC also provided a breakdown by local government area, which includes Idemili North (246,318), Awka South (216,611), Ogbaru (188,016), Anambra West (71,332), and Dunukofia (83,580).

The commission further disclosed that 24,000 officials will be deployed across 5,718 polling units, while Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for new registrants, transfers, and replacements will be ready before election day.

What the Numbers Mean

The figure 2,802,790 reflects the number of eligible voters, those who registered and can vote if they collect their PVCs.

However, this does not represent the actual number of people who will vote on election day. In previous elections, voter turnout in Anambra has been considerably lower. During the 2021 governorship election, for instance, only 253,388 voters were accredited out of over 2.4 million registered voters, indicating a roughly 10 per cent turnout.

Hence, while over 2.8 million people are eligible to participate, the actual turnout will depend on factors such as voter interest, security, and logistics.
