As the Anambra State gubernatorial election approaches, political activities are intensifying across the state. Several aspirants from different parties have declared their intentions, and social media has become a central platform where candidates promote their campaigns.
Amidst this, a viral post featured Nollywood actress Chioma Ifemeludike, who shared images of her campaign photos for the gubernatorial election on Instagram.
The caption read “I am the flag bearer of the African Action Congress and I’m proud to say that I’m the best candidate in the November 8 Anambra gubernatorial election. The lighthouse is about to be lit. #ChiomaForGovernor2025 #CourageForChange.”
As of Oct. 29, 2025, the post had gathered 1,437 comments and 122 reposts.
The post drew many reactions from users who questioned whether she was truly a candidate. Many doubted the authenticity of her candidacy, while others questioned her choice of campaign pictures.
An Instagram user, @ekenedilichukwu2308, asserted that she is merely a “content creator.”
@Geoffry_obuna1 also wrote, “I thought Big Brother Naija (BBN) 2025 season had been concluded, and a winner emerged?”
Similarly, @alado_tv asked, “ under which party?”
User @instaplayboi commented, “She is not a real candidate, but merely ‘acting a movie scene.”
Another user, @hify_2, added “I am 100% sure this is a publicity stunt, nothing related to actual politics, because as how now”
The post has since gained traction, prompting confusion among social media users about whether her political ambition is authentic or part of an entertainment project.
The wave of scepticism prompted DUBAWA to verify whether Chioma Ifemeludike is indeed contesting for the Anambra governorship position.
Verification
To verify this, DUBAWA examined credible reports and official records. The Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) website shows that AAC is among the 16 political parties cleared to field candidates in the Anambra election. INEC’s list also shows Chioma is running for governor under the AAC with Mgbemena Ikechukwu as her running mate.
Moreover, DUBAWA also published the list of cleared political parties and their candidates. This list shows AAC is among the 16 political parties fielding candidates, and its flagbearer is Chioma.
Furthermore, credible media outlets, including Daily Post Nigeria, Punch, and Independent Nigeria, have reported that the AAC confirmed Chioma Ifemeludike as its official candidate for the November 2025 election.
Conclusion
The online reactions of social media users questioning Chioma Ifemeludike’s candidacy for the Anambra governorship election reveal that they are either uninformed or misinformed. Information from INEC’s official list and credible media reports confirms that she is the African Action Congress (AAC) flag bearer for the November 2025 election.
