CLAIM: Facebook users claimed that 30 state governors in Nigeria are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
VERDICT: FALSE. The last governor who officially joined the APC was Abba Yusuf of Kano State on Feb. 16, 2026. At the time, Yusuf was the 29th state governor in Nigeria representing the party under the ruling administration.

Political stalwarts and parties in Nigeria are pitching their tents with the best prospects as the 2027 general election draws closer.
On Jan. 29, 2026, Abba Yusuf, the governor of Kano State, decamped from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Facebook users across different timelines here, here, here, and here claimed that his action brings the total number of APC members among state governors to 30.
Babatunde Alabi, who made the claim while analysing the political situation in the country on Jan. 2, 2026, also described Lagos, Rivers and Kano states as strategic to every presidential candidate.
He said, “With President Tinubu already having these three states in the bag and a total of 30 states by his side, is the 2027 presidential election not already won and lost?”
The impact of the claim on the forthcoming elections, including the FCT Area Council Election, prompted DUBAWA to fact-check the claim.
Verification
Using keyword search, DUBAWA found the APC list of governors, which contained the names of 28 governors. The list was last updated on Sept. 30, 2025, months before Abba joined the ruling party.
DUBAWA observed that while Abba has been included on the list, Agbu Kefas, the Taraba state governor, is yet to be added, despite officially joining the party on Dec. 14, 2025.
Although there have been speculations about the defection of Adamawa state governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, as of Feb. 20, 2026, this has not been officially confirmed.
Apart from Adamawa, other states currently ruled by non-APC governors are Abia, Anambra, Bauchi, Osun, Oyo, and Zamfara states.
Conclusion
The APC’s website lists 28 governors, but excludes Agbu Kefas, who joined the party in December 2025. When summed together, the number of APC governors stands at 29. Therefore, the claim that APC has 30 state governors in Nigeria is false.
