Claim: A Facebook page claimed that Puma has withdrawn its sponsorship deal from the Portuguese national team after Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit.
Verdict: False! DUBAWA’s investigation found no evidence supporting the claim. Neither Puma nor Portugal has officially confirmed the claim. The Portuguese FA is still using all Puma-sponsored sports kits.
Full Text
Cristiano Ronaldo has walked out of the Portuguese national team camp after a public feud with head coach Jorge Jesus, sparking a crisis that could mark the end of his 23-year international career.
The fallout stems from Ronaldo’s anger at being benched and left out of recent Nations League matches, leaving Portugal divided over whether their greatest player acted selfishly or was disrespected.
Ronaldo confirmed on his official social media handles that he had left the camp after talks with the Portuguese Football Federation president, promising to reveal “the truth” soon.
This comes just before Portugal’s clash with Denmark, leaving the squad unsettled, though the team eventually won.
Amid the controversy, a Facebook page, Elevate Analysis, alleged that Puma has withdrawn from sponsoring the Federação Portuguesa de Futebol (FPF) following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure.
Other social media users shared the claim as seen here, here, and here.
DUBAWA decided to fact-check the claim because it could mislead the public.
Verification
First, DUBAWA conducted a Google keyword search and found that no credible news agency reported the claim.
We further checked Puma’s official website and found no report of the claim.
DUBAWA also verified the claim on the Portuguese Football Federation’s official website and found no evidence to support it.
In January 2025, Puma signed a long-term deal with the Portuguese Football Federation. If Puma has withdrawn its sponsorship deal with the FPF, it would have reported it on its official page.
Our investigation showed that after the claim was made, the Portuguese
senior team still used their Puma-sponsored jersey against Norway in the UEFA Nations League.
Conclusion
Our investigation found the claim to be false. No evidence supports the claim that Puma has officially withdrawn from the Portuguese Federation. The Portuguese FA is still using all Puma-sponsored sports kits.
