The International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN), a unit at the Poynter Institute, in collaboration with partners at Zašto ne, has unveiled the website for the 11th annual GlobalFact Fact-Checking Summit.
Angie Holan, IFCN’s director, revealed in an email addressed to verified signatories that the three-day summit, scheduled to commence from June 26 to June 28, 2024, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, will convene experts and stakeholders in fact-checking globally.
Tickets for in-person and virtual attendance are available on the website. Verified signatories can avail reduced-price tickets priced at $199 using the discount code “SIGNATORY” during checkout. However, it’s crucial to note that only 300 in-person spots have been reserved for verified signatories, emphasising the importance of early registration.
“Notably, select mainstage sessions will be live-streamed to accommodate virtual participation for those unable to attend in person,” Ms Holan said.
Recall that DUBAWA’s Baba Aisha investigation in 2023 won the Highest-Impact Fact-checking category at the 10th edition of the annual summit in Seoul, South Korea.
While revealing the network’s commitment to supporting fact-checkers in need, she said, “The IFCN has a tradition of providing travel assistance to fact-checkers who would not be able to attend the conference otherwise, and we are prioritising that this year. A portion of ticket and sponsor sales will support our Travel Assistance Fund for fact-checkers.”
Individuals seeking financial assistance are encouraged to contact globalfact@ifcn.org by Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2024, to request an invitation to apply for funds, as the network intends to review applications and notify applicants about the status of their requests.
For attendees requiring visas to enter Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ms Holan stressed the importance of promptly initiating the visa application process. In this regard, assistance is available through a team of local experts assembled.
“We have assembled a team of local experts who can help facilitate your visa application process. Use this form to submit your information to receive letters in support of your visa application. If you cannot access the form, please contact globalfact@ifcn.org. We must receive visa assistance inquiries no later than Friday, March 8,” she said.
Questions and inquiries about the event can be emailed to the event team. Ms Holan expressed gratitude towards partners at Zaštone and the dedicated teams at the IFCN and the Poynter Institute for their efforts in organising the conference.
She noted that further updates regarding conference programming and speaker opportunities will be communicated in due course.
In closing, Ms Holan encouraged prospective speakers to watch their inboxes for a forthcoming proposal call, signalling an exciting phase in the preparation for GlobalFact 2024.
