Claim: Facebook users shared images of Jackie Chan and announced that he had died.
Verdict: The claim is false. On the contrary, all recent media reports continue to feature him as active and engaged, which proves the death rumours are baseless.

Like many others, 71-year-old Jackie Chan, a Chinese actor prominent in Hollywood movies, has been an interesting character for decades. He has kept many glued to their screens for his intriguing movie roles, which mostly featured unique martial arts, stunts, and comedy.
In July 2023, a video circulating on social media showed him sobbing beside his daughter as they watched his old stunt clips. DUBAWA did its digging and found that the footage was from a scene in one of his movies titled “Ride On,” where the lady on the screen played as his daughter.
Fast forward to August 2025, a Facebook user, @Jude’s Juggernuts, claimed that Jackie Chan is dead.
Attached to the photos of the actor was a caption that read: “SAD NEWS: Farewell to a legend, Jackie Chan. The man who devoted his youth to art. Thank you for the wonderful memories you left behind.”
As of Aug. 21, 2025, when the post was seen, it had 144,000 likes, 3,000 comments, and 418 shares.
We checked the comments and found that most people who responded genuinely thought that Jackie Chan had truly died.
Among the responses, one user, @Abu Fornah, wrote: “ You are a legend forever, even as you are dead. You remain the best actor for Shaolin KungFu.”
@Kai John Boima, didn’t mince words; he said: “My family nearly sent me out when I threw out a pot of soup by implementing Jackie Chan’s KungFu. Your memory still remains legend.”
Users like @ Wisdom Joh, who did not believe the claim, responded: “I think the reason some people wish for actors and actresses to die is perhaps they want to stay too long and too familiar on social media so people can know them too.”

Looking at the engagement and the risk of the claim gaining more traction, coupled with a similar rumour about the actor that once went viral, DUBAWA decided to double-check.
Verification
For someone with such popularity, it is expected that news of his demise would be widely reported across mainstream media and social platforms. However, our search yielded no such results; no national or international news outlet has reported his death.
As part of the claim, one of the images shared by a Facebook user showed Jackie Chan lying in a coffin. To verify this, we subjected the picture to an AI-detection tool, Hive.ai, and it flagged the image as AI-generated and not genuine.
Instead of getting death reports, DUBAWA found up-to-date information about the actor. On Aug. 4, 2025, the Golden State Warriors shared a picture of NBA star Jimmy Butler meeting with Jackie Chan in China, during the player’s Li-Ning JB3 sneaker promotion tour.
Similarly, on Aug. 14, 2025, an official international trailer for Jackie Chan’s upcoming action thriller, The Shadow’s Edge, was released, and it featured him in the lead role. This significant promotional activity all came after the false death claims were shared on Facebook. This confirmed that Jackie Chan is alive and actively working.
In the course of our search, we found additional knowledge that this is not the first time social media users have alleged that he died. In 2011, false reports claimed he had died of a heart attack, which he later debunked. In 2013, another viral hoax claimed he had died in an accident while filming in Austria. Again, in 2015, similar false claims resurfaced, which forced his team to issue clarifications.
Conclusion
Our investigation shows that the social media posts claiming Jackie Chan has died are false. As of the time of filing this report, he is alive and well, as shown by his recent public appearances.
