Full Text: A Facebook user “Ikee Washington Wisseh Slewion” posted on the popular social media platform “FRIES FM” claiming that Alexander Cuming, political leader of the opposition Alternative National Congress, has agreed to go as Vice President running mate to ex-President Weah.
The post generated 83 comments and 49 shares.
DUBAWA decided to verify the information as part of its campaign against misinformation and disinformation.
Verification
The researcher contacted the claimant to provide evidence for his claim, but he has not yet responded to the inquiries.
The researcher again contacted Desmond Nimely, the National Deputy Secretary General of the Alternative National Congress, who described the claim as false and misleading.
“This is false and misleading! It is propaganda. Do not take it seriously”.
At the same time, Janga Kowo, the National Chairperson of the Congress for Democratic Change, a party led by ex-president George Weah, could not confirm such a claim.
“I can not confirm.”
Meanwhile, no news article has been published about ANC political leader Alexander Cummings joining the CDC as Vice running mate to ex-president George Weah in the 2029 elections.
Conclusion
Our research revealed no news publication of Mr. Alexander Cummings committing to run as George Weah’s running mate for the CDC, and statements from both parties’ officials, so the claim is misleading.
