Online recruitment has become one of the most popular employment methods. However, like all online activities, job hunting carries certain risks that people must be aware of and take precautions.

Arewa updates on Facebook posted a flyer of Dangote recruiting with the caption, “2024 opportunity to work in Dangote refinery this year. A degree is not required. Don’t Miss Out. Apply Now.’’

The flyer also showed an attractive salary range of 250,000-800,000 naira monthly and stated the available roles.

The comment section was flooded with hundreds of people asking how they could apply for the Job. The post garnered 3,200 likes, 696 comments, and 66 shares since this report was shared on Feb 26, 2024.

Seeing the excitement about the offer in the comment section and the post’s virality, we investigated the claim.

Verification

We looked into the link attached to the post. When we clicked on the link, we saw that it redirected us to another unrelated site with the post “Your guide to landing a work permit in Australia,” which is irrelevant to any job recruitment or Dangote.

To check the link’s authenticity, we used Scam Adviser, which showed that the link had a shallow trust score. It also revealed that the website’s owner is hiding his real identity and is being framed by another website, amongst other negative highlights.

We checked to see if the flyer came from the company, but we could not find it. Instead, we noticed the company had a section for vacancies or career opportunities on its page.

The career section noted that vacancies are advertised in the daily newspapers, and resumes should be sent on the website.

To ensure the best online experience and the security of your data, we urge that you only interact with websites hosted by reputable companies.

Conclusion

Dangote Refinery is not responsible for the vacancy posted on the Facebook page. The link had no relation with the company or any recruitment process. When the link was scanned, we noticed some discrepancies.
