The message claimed that the recruitment process aimed to ensure accurate population data collection and reliable statistical reporting for national planning and development. The post encouraged people to apply, with one of the messages reading:
“Statistics Sierra Leone is recruiting qualified personnel for data collection, enumeration, and statistical analysis in preparation for the national census. Verification
To confirm the authenticity of the recruitment notice, DUBAWA contacted Samuel Ansumana, the director of communication and public relations at Statistics Sierra Leone. He categorically denied the link, stating that the recruitment message did not come from their institution.
“That link is fake and does not originate from our institution,” he emphasised.
Due to the widespread misinformation and numerous calls received by the agency, Stats SL issued an official disclaimer on February 6, 2025, warning the public to disregard the false announcement.
