Ahead of the Osun state July 16 election, Arise Television is set to hold a debate for candidates vying to be the next governor of the state.
The debate, supported by Enough-is-Enough Nigeria (EiE), is scheduled to hold by 7p.m. today, Wednesday July 6, and will be broadcast live.
To ensure accuracy of information, DUBAWA is set to monitor the debate and do live fact-checking of claims made by the candidates.
The debate will feature five of the 15 candidates cleared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
These candidates are; Akin Ogunbiyi of Accord party, incumbent governor, Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Yusuf Lasun of Labour Party (LP), Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Goke Omigbodun of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Adegboyega Oyetola, the current governor of the state is seeking re-election on the promise that ‘good governance’ in the state would continue if he is re-elected.
Akin Ogunbiyi, the founder/chairman, Mutual Benefits Assurance PLC, is the governorship candidate of the Accord Party. In 2018 he joined the PDP seeking this same position but was defeated by Mr Adeleke.
Ademola Adeleke, popularly known as the dancing senator, was the closest rival to the incumbent governor in the last election. He is again contesting against the governor.
Yusuf Lasun, a former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives is vying for the position of governor under the Labour Party. He left the ruling APC in March after losing the party’s primaries.
Goke Omigbodun, who is a professional teacher, Architect and chartered Estate Surveyor and Valuer, is seeking to be governor under the SDP.
