Spoon TV Live, a local Liberian media outlet, has claimed that Oscar Dorley, the current captain of the Liberian National soccer team, equals African football legend George Weah’s record with three European titles.
The media outlet took to its official Facebook page, repeating the claim that Lone Star captain Oscar Murphy Dorley has matched George Weah’s record for the most top-flight league titles won by a Liberian footballer in Europe.
The post generated over 300 comments, 1.3k emojis, and 22 shares.

Verification
This claim surprised many Liberians, especially football fans, with mixed reactions from some sports journalists in and outside Liberia. To begin with, the researcher searched for both Liberian players, starting with Oscar Dorley.
Who is Oscar Dorley?
Oscar Dorley is a professional Liberian footballer who plays as a centre defensive Midfielder (CDM) for Slavia Praha and is the current captain of Liberia’s men’s national team.
On 11 August 2019, Dorley signed a four-year contract with Slavia Praha, from Slovan Liberec, following his loan at Slovan Liberec at the end of 2019.
Dorley spent his early career with Monrovia Club Breweries, a local Liberian team. In February 2018, he joined the Czech team Slovan Liberec on loan for the remainder of the 2017–18 season. In January 2019, he made the deal permanent by signing a three-and-a-half-year contract.
While with Slavia Prague or Slavia Praha, Dorley won the Czech Republic top-flight league three times, 2019-2020, 2020-2021, and 204-2025 league seasons respectively.
Who is George Weah?
George Weah is the immediate past president of the Republic of Liberia, the first African player to win the Ballon d’Or, or the world’s best footballer, in 1995, and three times African Best player award, 1989, 1984, and 1995, and many other titles in the football world.
In 1994, George Weah played in the French Ligue 1 with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). In addition, he won the Coupe de France three times with PSG (1993, 1994, 1995) and the Coupe de la Ligue with PSG in 1995
He also won the Italian Serie A twice, in 1996 and 1999, with AC Milan and the FA Cup with Chelsea in 1999.
In comparing the two, the evidence suggests that whilst Dorley won three titles with one team in a less fancied Czech Republic league in Europe, George won titles with the giants of Europe, including AC Milan, PSG, and Chelsea.
Conclusion
Based on the research conducted and the evidence available, the claim that Dorley equals Weah’s record with third European titles is misleading.
