Since assuming office on Monday, Jan. 20, 2025, Donald Trump has signed a host of executive orders on citizenship birthright, gender ideology extremism, tariffs on trading partners, and the suspension of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), among other things.
Also, in his ardent executive plan to position America’s welfare on the American citizens, Trump initiated a crackdown on illegal immigrants, including nationals from China, Columbia, Mexico, and most recently India, using the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials.
In light of this, a Facebook user, Ray Captain, on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2025, claimed Trump had ordered the sale of properties owned by African politicians in the state.
He further mentioned that President Trump has called for the deportation of their children studying in the US.
The post captions read, “President Donald Trump orders the sale of all private jets and luxury properties owned by African politicians in the U.S. He also calls for the deportation of their children studying in the U.S.”
“Your children must attend schools in your own country and contribute to its growth,” the claimant added.
The post, made one week after his inauguration, had accumulated over 645 reactions and 222 comments and had been shared 15 times as of Monday, Feb. 3, 2025.
Many users debated the post’s credibility in the comment section, while others believed it and commended the president’s effort.
“I wish it was true. This would be the best decision ever made. They shouldn’t also be allowed to go for treatment in the US, and I support (them),” Aboz AB, a Facebook user, wrote.
Another user, Nyar Wema, asserted, “Is this really true? Just wish it could be true.”
In contrast, Eden Noddy said, “Now, this is the leader we need.”
Meanwhile, DUBAWA came across similar posts linking the claim to Nigeria as seen on X, Thread, Facebook (here, here, and here), Instagram (here and here), and TikTok (here and here).
Considering the virality of the claim, the personality involved, and its potency to incite fear among politicians of African extraction who own properties in the States, DUBAWA decided to carry out this investigation.
Verification
In authenticating the post’s veracity, DUBAWA ran a keyword search to determine if President Trump had ordered the sale of African politician’s properties but found no supporting information.
A similar keyword search on the deportation of their students in the US also yielded no results.
Furthermore, we checked the White House’s official website to confirm the claim’s credibility. Still, we found no reported deportation or property sales related to Africa as claimed.
Moreover, a review of President Trump’s posts on his official X handle since his inauguration shows no such announcement.
Additionally, DUBAWA reviewed the US Office of Foreign Asset Control’s website for any information on the said development but found none.
Conclusion
DUBAWA’s investigation reveals that the claim about President Trump selling properties owned by African politicians and deporting their children is false.
