Claim: A Facebook user, Tope Fasua, on Nov. 20, 2025, posted a video claiming that the terrorists who attacked a church in Eruku, Kwara State, have been arrested by vigilantes.

Verdict: False. DUBAWA’s findings show that the video is from September 2025 and is not related to the November church attack. The Kwara State Police Command has also confirmed that no arrest has been made.

On Nov. 18, 2025, armed men attacked the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Isegun branch, in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State. The attack took place during an evening service, and portions of the incident were captured on a live stream of the church. Community sources confirmed that three worshippers were killed, while several others, including the pastor, were abducted.
The Kwara State Police Command confirmed that suspected bandits killed at least two people and injured one during attacks in Eruku, a boundary town in the Ekiti Local Government Area. Reports from the community indicate that the abductors are demanding ₦100 million as ransom for each of the 38 victims believed to be held.
Amid this confusion, a Facebook user, Tope Fasua, posted a video (archived here) on Nov. 20, 2025, claiming that vigilantes had arrested the perpetrators. By Nov. 21, 2025, the post had amassed over 347 shares, 330 comments, more than 600 likes, and over 21,000 views.
The reactions to this post were mixed. Some users believed the claim, with one user writing, “That is why I love the Yorubas, we don’t harbour terrorists… Yoruba land is not a fertile land for criminals.”
Another user, Sam Ladipo, asked, “What of those kidnapped? Were they rescued?”
However, others immediately called out the post as misleading. Auser, James Oshiorenua King, wrote, “THIS IS AN OLD VIDEO. There is nothing that all these shameless APC syphocants will not bring up to conceal their incompetence. APC, propaganda, and lies are siamese conjoined triplets.” DUBAWA decided to fact-check the claim due to its sensitivity and potential to mislead the public about the actual state of events.
Verification
DUBAWA conducted a keyword search to determine whether the police or the Kwara State Government had issued any updates on arrests related to the Eruku church attack. We found no such information.
While President Bola Tinubu confirmed the release of the victims, he did not comment on whether any of the perpetrators had been arrested.
We extracted screenshots from the circulating video and subjected them to keyframe analysis. DUBAWA’s investigation found that the video, which was shared online in September 2025, is unrelated to the Eruku church attack.
We also found a report that the police in Kwara described a viral video suggesting the command had arrested the suspects as “completely false.” The police added that joint operations were ongoing to track down the attackers.
Conclusion
The circulating claim suggesting that vigilantes apprehended suspects connected to the Eruku church attack is false. Both the police and the state government have announced that no arrests have been made, and the video used to support this claim is from an unrelated incident in September 2025.
