A Liberian journalist, Weekie Brooklyn Brooks of Kool 91.9 FM, made several claims during his live radio show on Monday, August 25, 2025. DUBAWA felt compelled to verify two of the claims due to the controversy they have generated so far.

Claim #1: “Unity party was a sitting government when they were thrown out or evicted from their Headquarters.”

Weekie Brooklyn Brooks, lead host of the ‘Kool Morning Ride,’ an early morning radio talk show aired on Kool 91.9 FM, has said that the Unity Party (UP) was in power when they were thrown out of the headquarters. Brooks claimed the show’s edition from Monday, August 25, 2025.

The show, which was live-streamed on the station’s official Facebook page, garnered over 50 comments, more than 80 emojis, and over 2,000 views.

According to  Brooks, “Political parties in Liberia do not learn from past mistakes, because the Unity Party was a sitting government when they were thrown out of its headquarters,” and this claim is found between 1:38:38 and 1:39:10 hours/minutes/seconds of the over two-hour radio show.

Background

Brooks’ claim comes in the wake of eviction orders issued by the court against the immediate past administration, the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), headed by football legend George Weah.

In the early morning hours of Saturday, August 23, 2025, the Liberia National Police accompanied the court’s sheriffs to execute an eviction order against George Weah’s former ruling party, Congress for Democratic Change (CDC).

This eviction exercise received extensive media coverage on social media and traditional media (radio and newspapers), as seen here, here, and here.

On May 28, 2025, the Supreme Court of Liberia upheld a lower court’s ruling against the CDC, ordering it to vacate a parcel of land on which its headquarters have been located. Associate Justice Jamesetta H. Wolokollie delivered the opinion, which was signed by all five justices of the High Court.

With this background, it is proper to investigate whether the Unity Party was also thrown out of its offices while it was in government.

Verification

To verify this claim, the researcher contacted the claimant via messenger but was unable to reach him. Later, he reached out via WhatsApp and regular text message about any evidence that backs his claims, but to no avail.

The researcher then searched the records and discovered that the ruling Unity Party (UP) was evicted in 2022, following its departure from power in 2018 at the end of its first administration.

According to a news report by the Front Page Africa newspaper, in 2022, the civil law court at the Temple of Justice ordered the Unity Party to be evicted from its headquarters in Congo Town during George Weah’s presidency of the CDC.

Conclusion

Based on the check and the evidence provided, the claim that the Unity Party was a sitting government while it was thrown out of its party headquarters is misleading.

Claim #2: “The Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) Party built a vocational school to educate young Liberians, but could not put out any graduates.”

Full Text

A Liberian journalist, Weekie Brooklyn Brooks, claimed that since establishing the Munah Tech vocational school in 2022, the school has not put out a single graduate.

Brooks said, “The Party built a vocational school to educate young Liberians, but could not put out any graduates. The school cannot show a single graduate,” and this claim is found between 1:35:27 and 1:35:50 hours/minutes/seconds of the over two-hour show.

What is Munah Tech?

The Munah Tech is a vocational institution owned and operated by the immediate past administration, the Coalition of Democratic Change (CDC), mainly to develop the skills of its partisans, supporters, sympathisers, and well-wishers.

The school was established in 2022 and named in honour of one of the party’s staunch members and former Representative of Montserrado County, District #9, and now deceased, the late Munah Pelham-Youngblood

Verification

According to news reports in the Oracle News Daily, Freedom Radio, and METRO MEDIA, Munah Tech graduated its first batch of over 1,000 students in various disciplines on September 3, 2023.

Before the graduation ceremony, the school held a Baccalaureate and thanksgiving service for the students at the Forky Klon Church, a church owned by former Liberian President, George Weah, located within the Baptist Seminary Community, Paynesville city, outside the country’s capital, Monrovia.

For his part, Mr. Sneh Johnson, the head of the Munah Tech vocational institution, expressed disappointment and frustration over the court’s action to demolish the institution.

On his official Facebook page, Johnson said,

“On my way to church this morning and looking over the destroyed CDC Headquarters, especially the building that was a symbol of training hundreds of young people in livelihood skills, broke my heart. I am very glad that as head of the effort to recruit 2000plus young people, and the eventual graduation of over 1200 after a full year of vigorous and quality training. Those students are contributing immensely to nation-building today. At the LEC, LWSC, Saloons, Restaurants, and Hotels in and around Monrovia are proud recipients of the high-quality and trained mid-level technicians in their services today.”

However, as seen below, the researcher obtained some pictures and certificates presented to the students during graduation.
