The current tension across the Middle East following the United States (US)–Israel airstrike dominated the information space.
We also saw claims of corruption allegations, security and a death hoax.
Below are some of the assertions DUBAWA checked this week.
- Ribadu called Tinubu a corrupt politician
Corruption, deeply embedded in both the private and public sectors in Nigeria, has been described as one of the cankerworms eating deep into the fabric of the West African nation.
In light of the foregoing, a social media user asserted that Nigeria’s incumbent National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, described Bola Tinubu, Godswill Akpabio, and Orji Kalu among the top five most corrupt governors as of 2006.
Considering the personalities involved in the allegation, DUBAWA investigated the claim and found insufficient evidence to substantiate it. Read the full article here.
- Muslims kill 500,000 Christian faithful in 2025
An X user with a huge line of followers shared a clip claiming that Muslims killed 500,000 Christians in Nigeria in 2025 alone.
However, we scrutinised credible outlets in the country that might have reported the assertion but found no supporting information. Instead, we found conflicting figures from different bodies on the number of casualties from these attacks.

- Nigerian forces shoot down Iranian drone in Sokoto
Amid the tensions in the Middle East, with reports of drones being widely deployed for surveillance and attacks, a social media user shared footage and claimed that an Iranian drone lost its way into Nigeria. The user claimed Nigerian troops shot down the drone in Dan Musa village, Sokoto State.
Looking at its potential to add to the geopolitical instability, we conducted a Google reverse image search that traced the image to an Iranian-made unmanned aerial vehicle crashed in Gırdaçal village, affiliated with Erbil in northern Iraq.

Recently, a Facebook page, Antisapa blog, shared a post announcing the alleged burial in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State. His popularity sparked widespread reactions across the country.
After a careful review of media reports and getting no supporting information, DUBAWA reached out to Friday Omosola, an entertainment reporter. He clarified that, contrary to the assertion, the circulating clip was a stunt for content creation.

- US president Trump signs Nigeria’s disintegration bill
Recently, the US president, Donald Trump, designated Nigeria as a country of particular concern, alleging that Christian faithfuls are being persecuted in the nation’s decades-old history of bandit violence.
Contributing to this discourse, a Facebook page, News Analysis, posted a clip alleging that Mr Trump has signed a “Nigeria disintegration bill.” The post suggests that the US government plans to divide Nigeria, allegedly in response to claims of persecution of Christians in the country.
However, findings by DUBAWA reveal that no verified reports or official communications support the narrative of such a bill.

- Iran targets CIA office in Dubai
As the crisis continues in the Middle East, a Facebook page named Eagle Eye Report posted that the Central Intelligence Agency, CIA headquarters in Dubai, was set ablaze by Iran.
DUBAWA’s investigation reveals that the claim is false. Contrary to the assertion, the circulating images have been online since October 2025, and the CIA is not headquartered in Dubai.
