Viral Photo of Pro-Palestine protesters in Japan, Al-generated

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Claim: A Facebook page, Muslim Player, posted a viral photo of pro-Palestine protesters in Japan, claiming that there was a demonstration in Japan for Gaza.

Verdict: Misleading! Although Japan has supported Palestine against Israel since the start of the war,  the viral photo claiming a pro-Palestine demonstration in Japan is AI-generated.

Full Text

Since the war broke out between Palestine and Israel on October 7, 2023, Japan has unrelentingly supported Palestine against Israel.

In November 2023, around 1,500 people joined a rally in Tokyo’s Shinjuku Ward, calling for a ceasefire to “Save Gaza,” as reported by The Asahi Shìbum

The demonstrations were also carried out in other parts of Japan as demonstrators waved Palestinian flags, demanding a “cease fire.”

In March 2024, hundreds of Japanese had organised a demonstration in front of the US embassy in Tokyo, protesting against the United States’ support for Israel, according to Russia Today.

The Japan Times reported in May 2025 that Tokyo staged a protest with Israel after the Israeli military fired warning shots at a group of diplomats, including Japanese, who had visited the Palestinian territory of the West Bank.

Last month, Al Jazeera reported that Japanese activists had pledged to continue a daily Gaza protest, after more than 600 days of protesting against genocide.

Even so, a Facebook page, Muslim Player, posted a viral photo of pro-Palestine protesters demonstrating in Japan.

The caption on the photo reads: “Japan Stands with Palestine. Demonstration in Japan for Gaza.”

In the photo, approximately thousands of protesters lined up on a street with Palestinian flags.

As of August 13, 2025, the post had 8.2k likes, 459 comments, and 14.9k shares.

DUBAWA decided to fact-check the story because it could mislead the public.

Verification

Firstly, DUBAWA conducted a Google keyword search and found that, as reported by the Tehran Times, Japanese activists have carried out a series of protests since the war began in 2023.

For instance, we found that Japanese activists had pledged to embark on a daily Gaza protest in July 2025, according to Al Jazeera.

DUBAWA found that on August 5, 2025, Japanese activists carried out another demonstration against Israel, as reported by Arab News

The demonstration took place in Tokyo, demanding an end to the ongoing starvation in Gaza.

While it’s true that Japan has been supportive of Palestine, carrying out a series of demonstrations against Israel, the viral photo shared by Muslim Player appeared too good to be true.

Therefore, DUBAWA subjected the photo to an ImgDetect, an AI-image detector tool.

The result showed that the image is 99% Al-generated content.

Conclusion

Although there have been protests by pro-Palestine protesters in Japan, the viral photo alleging a protest is AI-generated. It’s not a picture of a real protest in Japan.
