Simbiat Bakare, DUBAWA’s Copy Editor, has received the African Union Agenda 2063 Women’s Impact Award.

She received this award during the 2025 Global Excellence Summit for her contributions to gender equality through journalism.

The event, themed “Global Excellence in Diplomacy and Leadership: Africa’s Path to Prosperity,” celebrated visionary individuals shaping the future through impactful leadership, innovative achievements, and social transformation.

Reacting to this win, she appreciated the organisers and recognised other talented African journalists.

“I am honoured to have received the award. The recognition shows that we should not be afraid to express our convictions and amplify the stories of women and girls in pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goal of gender equality.”

Simbiat’s impressive work extends beyond this achievement. She has authored numerous articles and investigations for DUBAWA, including her famous Odalo piece, which emerged as runner-up in the professional fact-check category at the African Fact-Checking Award 2024.

She has also been recognised by She Leads Africa 50 under 30 and Crest Africa’s Leaders shaping Africa, for her impact in Journalism.

The Global Excellence Summit and Awards (GESA) 2025 is in partnership with the African Union Agenda 2063 Ambassadorial Assembly, United Nations International Peace and Governance Council (UNIPGC), Nigeria-Canada Parliamentary Friendship Inc., and the International Society of Diplomats.
