Full Text

On Aug. 10, 2025, Comfort Emmanson, an Ibom Air passenger, had a fisticuff with a hostess aboard the flight, resulting in her arrest and eventual detention at the KiriKiri Maximum prison.

Following this incident, different videos circulated on the internet showing Comfort slapping the hostess after the latter restrained her from disembarking the aircraft.

Another video was also shared showing where the young lady was forcefully taken out of the plane by security operatives. This video revealed that Comfort’s clothes were ripped off in the process.

Sadly, this video has gone viral, with some social media users claiming Comfort’s “indecent dressing” led to her breasts being exposed. Other users, however, argued that she was maltreated, pointing out that she wore a jacket in other clips.

Amid the ensuing drama, some social media users shared a viral quote attributed to Chimamanda Adichie, alleging that the author said she felt no pity for Comfort because the latter was indecently dressed.

The post read, “One of the disadvantages of indecent dressing. I feel no pity for her.”

We found the post was also shared here, here and here

This sparked mixed reactions on social media. Some users condemned Chimamanda, while others questioned whether the statement was hers, given her profile as a women’s rights advocate and feminist.

Due to the issue’s sensitivity, DUBAWA verified the viral statement attributed to the author.

Verification

DUBAWA checked Chimamanda’s social media handles on X, Instagram, and Facebook and found that the writer had not publicly commented about the incident.

The last post on her Instagram was based on a literature festival held in Switzerland.

Further investigation by DUBAWA revealed that one social media account had previously shared the screenshot of the X handle being quoted.

The account’s display name read “Chimamanda” with a heart icon, and the username @Chima_obi1234. This name differs from the writer’s official X handle, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (@ChimamandaReal).

Studying the X account, we discovered that the profile, created in January 2024, identifies as a social media influencer in Anambra State. We also observed that its contents are political.

In January 2019, Chimamanda posted on X notifying the public that her official X handle is @ChimamandaReal. She made this post because some accounts impersonated her on the platform and extorted unsuspecting users.

Similarly, checks showed the X user has since deleted the post from the handle amid rising scrutiny from online users.

DUBAWA also conducted a keyword search online and found that no major news outlets had reported the quote attributed to the author.

Conclusion

The viral quote attributed to Chimamanda on the Ibom Air saga is false. As of when this report was filed, there is no public record of the author’s comment on the incident.
