The clock is ticking for the Nimba County senatorial by-election. Activities leading to the showdown on April 22 have kicked off, including the nomination of candidates by political parties, alliances, coalitions, and independent individuals.

After this ended, the National Elections Commission (NEC), the country’s electoral authority, issued the candidates’ nomination printouts to nominated individuals.

Samuel Kogar, a Nimba District 5 lawmaker, was among those who received the candidate nomination printout from the NEC.

Following his receipt of the printout, a document surfaced online, which many believe to be the Nimba County lawmaker’s candidate nomination printout.

The document was also shared here, here, and here.

The claimants said Kogar’s printout did not bear the stamp of the NEC, which raises concerns about his legitimacy as an aspiring candidate.

Given the confusion stirred by the viral document, DUBAWA verified the information.

Verification

DUBAWA contacted the National Elections Commission (NEC) through its communication office to verify the authenticity of the viral document.

In response, the Communications Director, Prince Dunbar, said the viral document is from the NEC.

Dunbar said some unfolding circumstances at the NEC when Kogar went to register caused his printout not to be stamped by the commission.

“I can clarify and tell you, yes, that document came from us,” the communications director said. “We had a technical problem when he came to register.”

However,  he said that Kogar’s printout is legal and qualifies him to be placed on the provisional list.

“The document is genuine, and he has been placed on the provisional list,” Dunbar said.

Conclusion

Multiple Facebook users’ viral posts that the NEC did not stamp Kogar’s candidate nomination printout are accurate.
