Claim: A Facebook user, Yekeh Kolubah, alleges on Facebook that Speaker Richard Koon’s convoy killed a motorcyclist around Banerville due to irresponsible driving.

A Facebook user, Yekeh Kolubah, in a social media post claimed that House Speaker Richard Koon’s convoy killed a motorcyclist.

The post generated 121 likes, 72 comments, and 35 shares.

Several social media users and platforms, including Marsin Leader Tarpeh, Liberian First Online TV, DTV Online, and Amara Kabah, made the same claim.

DUBAWA decided to conduct a fact-check on the claims as part of its mandate to promote truth in public discourse.

Verification

The researcher initially contacted the claimants to gather evidence regarding the claim, but they refused to respond to numerous inquiries. Our researcher also contacted the authorities of the Liberia National Police to verify the claim, but they denied knowing of such an accident.

“There has been no accident reported to the Liberia National Police,” said spokesperson, Madam Cecelia Clarke.

Our researcher also visited District 11 and asked residents about the claim that the speaker convoy killed a motorcyclist, to which they responded that they did not know of it. 

Also, the District office of the Speaker denied the allegation as false in a communication signed by the district coordinator.

In addition, there have been no media publications of the House speaker’s convoy getting involved in an accident or killing a motorcyclist.

Conclusion

With no evidence of media publication and the responses from Philip Doe, District Coordinator, Office of House Speaker Richard Koon, and Police spokesperson, Cecelia Clarke, the claim is false.
