Misleading! Viral video of Trump signing military orders unrelated to Nigeria

Verdict: Misleading! The video shared is an old video from September and is not related to the development around the deployment of the US military to Nigeria.

Full Text

The United States (US) President Donald Trump’s declaration of Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” and order to the US military to prepare for action in Nigeria to tackle Islamist militant groups, has caused diplomatic tension. Trump accused the government of failing to protect Christians.

Amidst this development, an X user, AFRICAMUSTBEFREE!! (@engrICO2015) shared a video noting that the US has finally signed the order to deploy the military to protect Christians in Nigeria.

In the video, Trump can be seen signing and displaying a document, while personnel in the background shake hands. The video, which has since gone viral, as of Nov. 8, 2025, garnered a total of 119,800 views, 1700 likes, and 234 comments. The post can also be found on Facebook here (archived link), here, here, here, here, and here

The virality of the video, the sensitive nature of this claim, and the possibility of it sparking religious and political tensions made DUBAWA fact-check it.

Verification

To authenticate the claim, we conducted a keyword search to find any information about the alleged deployment to Nigeria. We have found that no credible media outlet has reported this development to date.

We then conducted an image reverse search on the video using Google Lens. The results revealed that the picture has been online since September 2025, as part of a Facebook post

Another image search on the post led us to a news report from TVC on Sept. 6, 2025, with the headline “Trump Rebrands Department of Defence As Department of War.”

Other media organisations, such as BBC News, Al Jazeera English, and CBS Chicago, all reported the news.

The videos did not say or mention anything about the deployment of soldiers to Nigeria.

We visited the social media page of The White House, where verified information about the US is posted, and we saw a post about the name change on Sept. 5, 2025. The page did not mention the deployment of soldiers to Nigeria.

Conclusion

The video is misleading. The footage is from September 2025 and relates to Trump’s rebranding of the US Department of Defence, not the deployment of American troops to Nigeria.
