On Feb 5, 2025, a link started circulating on WhatsApp, stating the Electoral Commission Sierra Leone was recruiting new workers to fill in different positions. The post encouraged people to apply, with one of the messages reading:
Recruitment has already started.
Don’t miss this great opportunity!
APPLICATION IS FREE!!!
Many job seekers, particularly unemployed youth, were drawn to the link and clicked on the provided link, believing it to be a genuine opportunity. This prompted our verification.
Verification
To confirm the authenticity of the recruitment notice, DUBAWA contacted Albert Massaquoi, the External Relations Officer at the Electoral Commission Sierra Leone. He categorically denied the link, stating that the ECSL hasn’t opened an application for recruitment of new workers.
“That link is fake, and we haven’t opened a recruitment process for new workers,” he emphasised.
Due to the widespread misinformation and numerous calls received by the agency, the Electoral Commission Sierra Leone issued an official disclaimer on Feb 6, 2025, warning the public to disregard the false announcement.
Conclusion
The social media link circulating on WhatsApp about an ongoing recruitment exercise at the Electoral Commission Sierra Leone is false. The institution has officially discredited the information, warning the public not to fall for the scam.
