In May 2025, BBC Africa published a video reporting on several deepfake videos purportedly shared on social media platforms, showcasing Burkina Faso’s junta leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, as a “strong Pan-African hero.”
In the report, brief compilations of several deepfake videos claimed that R Kelly, Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Justin Bibier have all sung songs for Ibrahim Traore. In fact, according to BBC Africa, some of these videos have also been taken out of context through manipulations.
Burna Boy, a Nigerian-British singer and Grammy Award winner, was linked with Capt. Traore, after claims surfaced on social media that he was offering a free concert for the people of Burkina Faso.
Although Burna Boy did not officially comment on the claim, many social media users across Africa readily believed it.
While it was true that Burna Boy had posted on his Instagram story expressing a desire to stage a free concert in Burkina Faso, some social media users had taken the post out of context, claiming that he was paying homage to Capt. Traore’s style of leadership.
Shortly after, a viral video shared across WhatsApp groups claimed that Burna Boy has sung a new song for Captain Ibrahim Traore titled “Help Your Son, Ibrahim Traore.”
The introduction of the video showed a crowd briskly waving flags, followed by a picture of Ibrahim Traore on a flag.
In the two-minute-long video, Burna Boy is heard singing with his lips moving unnaturally.
The song’s opening verse reads in pidgin: “We run this race without feet. We are the ones who carry people in the queue, but still stand. Ibrahim Traore is your son, ‘baba’ God. He does not chase power; it is justice that drives him. So, we need to go down and beg you to protect him.”
Then, the song chorused melodiously in these words: “So, Baba hold up for handle, make u no go fall for trouble. Dem di bada dem wit plan, but you be the real strong back…”
DUBAWA decided to fact-check the claim due to its mandate to amplify truth.
Verification
DUBAWA reviewed Burna Boy’s Spotify and Apple Music accounts and found that he did not upload the song.
The video was neither streamed on Burna Boy’s official Instagram account nor his official Facebook account.
Also, DUBAWA found that the song is not among the list of songs compiled in Burna Boy’s 2025 new album, “No Sign of Weakness.”
DUBAWA traced the video shared on WhatsApp and found that it was originally uploaded on YouTube by Ai modiveza in May 2025.
The video has since gained 1.3k views and 7.9k likes.
A thorough review of the video by DUBAWA revealed key elements of Al.
Below are the findings:
- Inconsistent Voice: There were two voices in the song claiming to be Burna Boy’s, but neither matched with Burna Boy’s original voice.
- Inconsistent Visual: The visuals were inconsistent, a pattern associated with Al videos.
- Burna Boy looked like a cartoon and appeared unnatural when he sang.
- His facial expression was unsettling and sinister.
- The background of the video appeared unreal, lacking real-time graphics.
- Inaccurate Subtitle: The subtitle was inaccurate, misusing words. Also, it appeared seconds after the words were voiced.
- Source of the Video: The video was produced by Al Modiveza on YouTube, captioned in parentheses as “2025 Al Music.”
- Al modiveza has a host of other Al-generated videos on YouTube.
- A brief description of Al Midiveza reads: “Welcome to Al Modiveza, your ultimate hub for groundbreaking music powered by Artificial Intelligence.”
Conclusion
DUBUWA’s investigation revealed that the video was generated using AI. It does not appear on any credible music-streaming platforms and is also not found on Burna Boy’s official digital accounts.
